Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe (OpenTTD) Game Review!

Check out more great game reviews!

Transport Tycoon and Transport Tycoon Deluxe, which was created by Chris Sawyer (of Rollercoaster Tycoon fame and Railroads) and Microprose, is a game where you own a company and run transport vehicles consisting of aircraft, seacraft, road vehicles, and trains. The game runs on a grid system and lets you build your empire in multiple ways, plus the game creates random worlds for you, or you can use the map editor to create your own worlds!

Desert Town in Transport Tycoon Deluxe
You have 4 different themes to play on, and each are different in their own way, such as the temperate climate, desert, artic, and candyland. You can use any method you wish to achieve money, by fulfilling subsidiaries, beating out your competition with advertisements for cities, expanding the cities, and outperforming them.

What is Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe? It is an open source game which expands upon the original in numerous ways, such as bug fixes, additional tweaks and options, better algorithms, and basically more of everything! You have much bigger maps to play on, Multiplayer support, Download Content straight from the in-game menu, better AI implements, better physics, and as I said before, everything is expanded upon, more than I can put onto this post.

I enjoy the passion and creativity of the team working on this project, and if you are skilled in what they are looking for, I would suggest lending a hand to them, because they have really put in a lot of work onto this project. They have the stable downloads, and they even publish the nightly downloads, which are beta testings for new features being implemented into the game. Their wiki also provides a manual to teach you how to play just in case you never played the game before, or you need an update on the new features being implemented into the game.

The game is also free, in which you will either need the original Transport Tycoon Deluxe (which can be acquired on Retro or Abandonware sites), or use their own install pack which comes with their own graphics, sounds, and so forth. Either way, you cannot go wrong to play this game, and the multiplayer implements is also a wonderful feature, because back when this game was released, Multiplayer was still more of a dream and nothing like we have now, and most of said Multiplayer was left to LAN and network gameplay.

Overall, I am loving the effort and work displayed by the OpenTTD team and I support their work. If you can provide assistance to the team, I am sure they would greatly appreciate it. Below is the link to where you can see the game for yourself.
